Legitmacy as a Young Designer (Part 1)

So I have to get this off my chest as it’s been bugging me as of late…

Challenges as a Designer

One of the greatest challenges I’ve been trying to over come as a young designer is the prolific notion that “anyone can design” and “everyone is a Designer.” All to often I meet those who think they too are Designers, yet most do not have the proper training nor the slightest grasp of what it truly is to be one.

I’m educated, well-trained, diversified and experienced. So why am I the one defending myself from those who know nothing about the process of design? I find myself exasperated that people take my insight with such little credence.

Online Invoicing Services for Freelance Designers

I’ve been spending some time lately looking for a good invoicing service. With so many to choose from I found it hard to decide which would be best for my needs as a solo designer. Here is the best article I’ve found so far that compares 3 of these online services. I decided to try out Harvest has the review recommends it. I think I will also try out Freshbooks as well.

Skrepkus, the paperclip redesigned

So often we take for granted the common and obvious, never stopping to consider whether it could be done better. I came across this redesign of a common paperclip at Yanko Design.

The ability to tier bundled information

The ability to tier bundled information

The paperclip, for the most part, is pure function. Occasionally we find it in different colors but rarely a new shape. Does one ever asks if it could be designed better. Well, in my opinion is this the most beautiful paperclip I’ve ever come across both aesthetically and functionally. Called “Skrepkus” this piece was designed by Art Lebedev Studio.

This is a definate improvement on form and function.
